FGN Power Company (FGNPC) has significantly increased power supply in Lagos with the successful installation and energization of a 100 MVA, 132/33kV power transformer at the Maryland Transmission Substation.
This strategic upgrade, implemented under the FGNPC’s Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), has boosted the substation’s capacity from 72MW to 152MW, providing a much-needed sur ge in power supply to the Ikeja Distribution Company (Ikeja Disco) for customers in Ikeja GRA, Mile 12, Ketu, Ojota, Anthony, 7up Alausa office, Mende enviros, Ogudu road and surrounding areas.
A crucial component of the power grid, the 100 MVA transformer plays a vital role in enabling the efficient transmission to Ikeja’s Disco injection substation for onward delivery to consumers. This installation at the Maryland substation marks a major milestone in the FGNPC’s ongoing efforts to improve the country’s power infrastructure and ensure a more reliable and consistent electricity supply to consumers.
The increased capacity at the Maryland substation is expected to have a profound impact on the region, alleviating the persistent power shortages that have plagued Lagos in recent years. By providing a more stable and reliable power supply, the FGNPC aims to stimulate economic growth, improve the quality of life for residents, and support the development of businesses and industries in the area.
The additional 80MW of capacity at the Maryland substation has already yielded positive results. Businesses and industries in the region have reported improved productivity and reduced operational costs due to the more reliable power supply. Residents have also expressed satisfaction with the increased availability of electricity, which has enabled them to carry out daily activities and enjoy a better quality of life.
FGNPC is committed to continuing its efforts to enhance Nigeria’s power infrastructure and ensure a more equitable distribution of electricity across the country. The successful installation of the 100 MVA power transformer at the Maryland substation is a testament to the Federal Government’s dedication to improve electricity access to power economic growth for industrial clusters and commercial hubs across Nigeria.
